Connecting With God Through 5 Ways

Could I ask you for a small favor? Please rate the article on the star scale at the end, because we can't improve the site without your input :). Thank you

connecting with God through the dayDid you know that there are countless times in your day that you have established a connection with God?

Yes, I am talking about as if they are allready happening. Yesterday, you were in connection with God.. Whether you knew it or not.

Every moment of our lives, we are connecting to God. I don’t mean it in the way that we are all God and God is everything, but more like you always have a cell phone turned on and connected with God’s cell phone. Our problem is that we just don’t realize it. We make such a big deal out of finding the right way to reconnect to God: the right prayer or the right environment. We try so hard that we end up getting burnt out on “getting right with God”, but it is not our job to learn how to connect with God. God has allready done it.

Our job is to become aware of the connections that God has allready established with us throughout our day.

Below is a list of 5 times that you can be aware of your chance to connect with God through your average day. Every item on this list is an action that you make in your everyday life.

  1. Opening the front door on the way to work. As you step outside of your house in anticipation of a new day, God is there with you. Whether you are expecting to have a nice and relaxing day or an extremely stressful day, God is stepping through the door with you.
  2. In friendly conversations. We are connecting with God in all of our everyday conversation. When we are laughing with friends over a cup of coffee or glass of beer, God is there enjoying  the time with us.
  3. While waiting for something/someone. You’d be surprised how much of your day is made up of waiting for someone or something. Its just a natural part of the day. Have you ever taken the time to talk to God while you are waiting?
  4. During that 5 minute personal breather from work. We all take those personal moments to get away from our work for several moments. We check our email, go outside for a smoke, or  find someone to talk too. This is a good opportunity to give a short breath prayer.
  5. On the wonderful drive home from work.  I love to blast the radio on the way home from work. I probably would be embarrassed if someone videotaped and then showed me driving home. Its my time to release all the stress from work and refocus on my family.

These are just 5 in an average day that I am trying to make a habit of being aware of my connection with God. There are many other ways to connect with God through a routine and ordinary day. You might be more aware during other times than the ones I have listed.

I would like to hear about your experiences. Feel free to post a comment about when you are most aware of God’s connection or an event in your day that you are trying to be more aware of how God is connecting with you.

Beautiful article.. truly from the heart.. yes God is always with us. I love to talk with my God, my Guide who is always with me, who is always guiding me in this spiritual path. I am just catching his finger and walking beside him… so many things to say… I just love him.

I was loving it till i saw things i don’t agree with.. like for example when your drinking a glass of beer?? i mean how can He enjoy that? thats not going by the Bible. “Go outside for a smoke?” thats the time to take to do a short prayer? i don’t think so. “I don’t mean it in the way that we are all God and God is everything” sorry to correct you on this but GOD IS EVERYTHING.. Don’t get me wrong it started lovely it was just disappointing to see this little details.. Blessings.

  7. Hey Laura, thanks for sharing your opinions. I wish more people would be open to comment as it is only hearing many perspectives that we can truly know what is right.

In regards to your comments about smoking, I would agree that this act isn’t pleasing to God. I don’t smoke but I also am very weary of what I eat or how I treat my body as I do think it is a temple and a piece of art that reflects God. On the other hand, this article wasn’t written to myself but to people who are in process of making their lives right before God. We are all on that path in different points and therefore I believe it is my responsibility to encourage you wherever you are at.
Should I write as though my readers are in an ideal situation where they don’t have bad habits that will need to be worked out? I, personally, believe that it is my responsibility is to speak to a person in their current situation and then encourage them to continue in the journey. Maybe I am wrong, but I do not believe that I have the authority to tell a new believer or someone whom I don’t know where they are on in their journey to stop smoking. I believe that God will convict them when it is time and then it is our job to encourage them to quit. Would you agree?

In regards to your statement that “God is everything”, I found it somewhat surprising. Correct me if I am wrong because I can’t know the religious views of the visitors to this site, but I am assuming you are Christian? If so, then there is a real danger to say that God is everything, because it starts to assume a pantheistic belief. You can say that God is in everything in the way that a piece of an artist’s essence is in every work he creates, but it is wrong to say that God is literally in everything. If I kick a chair, am I kicking God? If God was in everything, then I would be.
I find that the best way to see it is that God created everything and just like an artist does, he left a piece of his own heart inside it all, but he doesn’t exist or reside in everything. He exists separate from the creation and if the creation was gone then God would still exist. On the other hand, his spirit still moves and can be felt within creation. Therefore, he is in creation at all times and everywhere. Does this make sense?
looking forward to your response, as good conversaiton is always nice :)
