I will be found by you,” says the Lord. – Jeremiah 29:13-14a [NLT]

Seek the Face of God in Your Life

Do you honestly seek the face of God in your life?

I have a lot of questions racing through my head regarding my future and current situations. I don’t know if I should move or even where I should go. I ask myself if it is time for a career change. I ask God for the diligence so I can raise my children to succeed in life.

I pray that I see His plan.

but do I ever search for God’s face in my daily life?

Does God Truly Hear Me?

We all doubt our faith from time to time. You will encounter a day that your heart breaks down while driving in the car and you end up screaming, “God, are you there? Spread the skies so I can see your face!” You will look upward in hopes of finding a small glimmer of something spectacular so your faith will remain strong.

Nothing happens.

God’s Desire For Israel

In the book of Jeremiah, the people of Israel lamented with the struggle of being captive in a foreign world. They were held hostage in a society that they didn’t understand nor wanted to belong. The fathers struggled to find hope and work in this odd place. The mothers’ tears streamed down their face as they shared stories of their past home. The entire nation pleaded to God for immediate intervention. They screamed to God to spread the skies and lay a path home before them.

But nothing happened…

Until God spoke through the voice of the controversial prophet Jeremiah

“.. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you..”

God promised them deliverance from captivity and they did return home, but it wasn’t immediate nor was it a priority. The people of Israel wanted answers. They wanted solutions. They wanted a vision and a path. They knew that God could deliver them and provide a way out.

God wanted more.

God wanted them to search their hearts and their lives to find Him.

God Rescues Us When We Seek His Face

He knew that physically delivering them from Babylon wasn’t enough to rescue them from captivity. God knew another oppressor will rise up and capture their home. It will continue to happen as long as flowers blossom and then wither away, but God had a solution that would transcend any physical obstacle.

Seek His presence.

We are much like the mother crying to return home, but do our souls ever cry out to encounter the presence of God?

God Desires Our Time

Jesus sold me on Christianity when he taught that God is more than a judge. God is our true and good father. He will shield us from harm in his arms. He will light the way home when our hearts grow dark. He will calm the storms that crash on our souls. He will mute the noise the world sends out.

Most of all, our Father wants to spend real authentic time with us.

Time focused on the relationship and not the outside noise.

I wanted God’s Direction and Neglected His Presence

This is a newer revelation for me. I’ve always sought God’s guidance in the direction of my life. I’ve prayed for clarity in many of life’s challenging circumstances and have enjoyed the calm that God poured into my heart when my world crashes down. These are all good steps, but my lack of commitment to seek the presence of God limits my relationship with Him and His influence in my life.

I blindfold my own eyes and then scream at God because I can’t see His presence.

After a period of 70 years, God delivered Israel out of physical captivity. They wanted an immediate action, but God’s message for the present was to search for Him. This answer applies for us today. Our lives are filled with so much noise, doubt and so many questions that we pray to God for solutions. Our minds trick us into believing that our entire world will colapse if God doesn’t light the path immediately.

Do You Search to Find God?

We attempt to blaze our own trail when we don’t hear God’s solution.

But maybe you didn’t hear his whisper,

“.. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you..”

You are struggling with some difficult choices. You are seeking God’s guidance in a relationship or your personal finances. Should I keep this person in my life? Is this job going to provide for my family? Is it time for something new?

These are all difficult questions that you need resolved, but maybe God is asking you to wholeheartedly seek Him. Forget about the arrows and rocks the world throws at you and simply seek to encounter the presence of God in your life.

Search to spend real time with God.

---
Related Articles at Life. Many Sunday School and youth group students have rigged the system of Bible memorization by finding nuggets of short verses such as this one and “Jesus wept” in order to receive free candy or special prize. Its a tradition that I continued while growing up and its also one that I encourage and share with lazy youth who try to find ways to rig the system.

It is also a verse that is a favorite for many people. The 3 simple words have such profound implication for our spiritual lives. Reading them can drastically transform your entire thoughts and beliefs on prayer. It can turn the discipline of prayer from a rugged ritual that is easily forgotton into..

a breathing conversation with God.

My Dead Prayer Life

For many of us, prayer can be lifeless and/or routine. You sometimes give thanks before a meal, ask for forgiveness after cursing out a reckless driver or request direction in making a life decision. We do these things not because anything in our lives will be changed, but it seems as the right thing to do

for a good Christian.

This is why we feel guilty for having such poor prayer lives but put little effort into changing our routines. Our lives are filled with chaos and constant change. If we do not fervently pursue the actions that will have the most impact on improving our lives then life itself will push us aside.

Therefore while we might wish we had better prayer lives, we just can’t afford the time to train on this discipline that produces little benefit.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Praying Without Ceasing and Various Excuses (lies)

I’ve met many people who say that they practice the discipline of praying without ceasing and I find many of them to be full of manuer. I think that it is an excuse for people who are too afraid that they will be stoned to death because they have a bad prayer life.

Nobody likes to admit to having a bad prayer life even though few of us actually pray regularly. We like to come up with excuses such as my dog ate my prayer journal or complete lies such as “Every single day for the past 20 years, I have spent 30 minutes on my knees right before bed.”

Most of the time, we walk the line between an excuse and a lie and simply exaggerate our actual prayer life. We say that we’ve spent 10 minutes in prayer even though it was only 5 or we get on our knees before bed when we just mutter a few words while laying on our sides with our eyes closed right before we fall asleep.

There are a few disciplined prayer giants, but I would say that most of you are like me.. distracted when it comes to prayer.

Bible Verse that Changes Your Life

This is why this simple verse “pray without ceasing” can either truly transform your life and awaken you to the real opportunities in the world or transform everyone’s perception of you as a spiritual giant.

You can use it as an excuse to tell people so they can be in awe of your perceived and completely plastic prayer life. People will look up to you as a guru who has pushed through the irrelevance of prayer and mastered a discipline that they really could care less to deepen. Your life won’t change, but you will look cool.

OR

You can actually spend the next 30 days working on nothing else but developing this simple and difficult habit to “Pray without ceasing”. After 20 minutes of day 1, you will want to give up. You will destroy your productivity systems in one day and people will laugh at you for attempting the impossible.

But your entire world be changed.

If prayer can easily be defined as a conversation with God then imagine what knowledge you gain by continuously conversing with the only thing that exists completely outside of time. It is like carrying around a wikipedia hyped up on a hundred shots of Red Bull times infinity.

Could you imagine the insights you can gain into your world by this simple but difficult discipline of conversation?

If you enjoyed this article, take a moment and browse our inspirational thoughts

---
Related Articles at Life. When you are struggling through loads of papers and work that was due yesterday or on the third phone call telling an unwavering man that you will get him the money, don’t lose hope. God is here listening and waiting to give you the power to control all the stress around you, and there is a simple prayer that has been practiced for centuries which can help you.

There is a little known prayer that spiritual Christians have been using as a means to help God reclaim the control in their lives. They simply use their breath as the tool to connect with God.

The Breath Prayer

The Breath Prayer is a simple prayer that allows you to focus on your breath and the present moment. You stop in the time when things are the most overpowering and take time to ask God for help. The prayer was formed in a way that it would not take a lot of time nor would it create unneeded attention. You can do it at any moment or anywhere.

Step 1: Find a Phrase for your Breathing Prayer

The breath prayer begins when you choose a phrase that you would like to focus on. It can be a verse from the Psalms, Proverbs or the Gospels. You can also craft a phrase of your own. Try to keep it around 5 – 7 words in length and something that is easy to repeat. Find the phrase that speaks to your current situation and seeks God’s strength to overcome the pressures around you.

Here is an example of one that I have used.

In you, I find my strength, my power.

Step 2: Breathe Deeply and Begin to Pray Your Phrase

Once you have found your phrase, then begin to take deep breaths from your diaphragm. Inhale and exhale 5-10 large times or until you find yourself somewhat relaxed. Then begin repeating your phrase as you breathe.

Start with repeating the entire phrase with one breath and then slowly move down to where you are saying one word as you inhale and one word as you exhale. When you are at this point, stop repeating the phrase and listen for God’s voice to answer your prayer.

Step 3: Direct Your Prayer and Breath Toward God

Remember to direct your words toward God when you attempt this breathing prayer. This is a prayer and you are trying to connect with God for a source of inspiration. If you simply repeat a phrase while breathing, then it becomes simple meditation and will help calm your nerves. But a breath prayer is so much more powerful. It relaxes your stress but also invites God to give you the inspiration to tackle the world around you.

Extra Reading

Here is an interesting article from Praise Walker entitled Breathing God and talks about breath prayer.

---
Related Articles at Life. We go to work and hope that something out of the ordinary happens so that we might have a chance to live and think for 10 minutes of our working day. It might be something as unremarkable as a seeing eye dog running around your office building and licking everybody in the face. It isn’t that we enjoy the mess the dog leaves. We just enjoy experiencing life.

Because we all could use a little inspirational wake up call, I have decided to list 5 inspirational Bible quotes that will enhance your day. I hope these verses might help encourage your faith and remember that even though life can be mundane, every day is a beautiful gift from God.

Inspirational Bible Quotes

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6) When you think that there is just too much pressure and too many deadlines in your life, remember that God walks with us. For 40 years, the people of Israel roamed the desert but God always supplied them with food and shelter.

“And be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:32) – We don’t realize it, but it is easy to neglect people when life becomes about mundane tasks. Paul reminds us that we are to care for everyone no matter our situation.

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ.” (Galations 3:28) – It is easy to get lost in our titles and placement in this world, but remember that with God we aren’t deemed important by the amount of hurdles we jump in life. We are still one in Christ when we succeed and when we fail.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” (Proverbs 3:5-6) – Life can become a place of confusion. We are bombarded with images of things we should would and told the direction we should take, but remember not too worry because God will direct your way.

Share These Bible Verses

I hope that these bible verse and quotes might help improve your day. He will provide for them as we need it.

This sounds great, but I don’t believe it is the complete interpretation of what he meant.

What is God’s Righteousness?

It is important to understand what Jesus meant when he said His Kingdom and Righteousness. These are the objects that we should seek.

Many people would quickly assume that Jesus is talking about Heaven and therefore would read, “Seek ye first to get to heaven and all these things would be given to you.” But this is not what Jesus was referring too.

The Righteous Life

This verse sits in the middle of the famous Sermon On The Mount. It is in these verses that he tells us how His Kingdom and Righteousness would be fleshed out. If we do the things that he tells us then God will find the way to provide for our needs.

Read through Matthew 5-7 and listen to how Jesus describes His Righteousness.

5 Elements of Righteous Living

If you read carefully, there are 5 general subjects that he discusses.

Compassion

Love

Faithfulness

humility

forgiveness.

These are the elements that Jesus used to define His righteousness and wants us to seek first. He is not telling us to throw away all of our groceries and become hermits, but live with compassion and faithfulness in all of our relationships throughout our day.

~

If you enjoyed this article then click here to learn more about AltNoise.net and our Inspirational Blog.

---
Related Articles at Life. Yesterday, you were in connection with God.. Whether you knew it or not.

Every moment of our lives, we are connecting to God. I don’t mean it in the way that we are all God and God is everything, but more like you always have a cell phone turned on and connected with God’s cell phone. Our problem is that we just don’t realize it. We make such a big deal out of finding the right way to reconnect to God: the right prayer or the right environment. We try so hard that we end up getting burnt out on “getting right with God”, but it is not our job to learn how to connect with God. God has allready done it.

Our job is to become aware of the connections that God has allready established with us throughout our day.

Below is a list of 5 times that you can be aware of your chance to connect with God through your average day. Every item on this list is an action that you make in your everyday life.

Opening the front door on the way to work. As you step outside of your house in anticipation of a new day, God is there with you. Whether you are expecting to have a nice and relaxing day or an extremely stressful day, God is stepping through the door with you.

In friendly conversations. We are connecting with God in all of our everyday conversation. When we are laughing with friends over a cup of coffee or glass of beer, God is there enjoying the time with us.

While waiting for something/someone. You’d be surprised how much of your day is made up of waiting for someone or something. Its just a natural part of the day. Have you ever taken the time to talk to God while you are waiting?

During that 5 minute personal breather from work. We all take those personal moments to get away from our work for several moments. We check our email, go outside for a smoke, or find someone to talk too. This is a good opportunity to give a short breath prayer.

On the wonderful drive home from work. I love to blast the radio on the way home from work. I probably would be embarrassed if someone videotaped and then showed me driving home. Its my time to release all the stress from work and refocus on my family.

These are just 5 in an average day that I am trying to make a habit of being aware of my connection with God. There are many other ways to connect with God through a routine and ordinary day. You might be more aware during other times than the ones I have listed.

I would like to hear about your experiences. Feel free to post a comment about when you are most aware of God’s connection or an event in your day that you are trying to be more aware of how God is connecting with you.

---
Related Articles at Life. It is about how our experiences seem to suggest that all religions are the same. My reflections about the issue showed this wasn’t true. Instead, they have interconnected truths from which we have similar experiences from different religions.

Yet, this still left us with two questions… Which is the right religion and how do we find these interconnected truths?

Errors in Searching For The Interconnected Truths

These questions are misleading. They have an error because they don’t let us see the bigger picture. No religion is completely right and it’ll be pointless to search for all the right interconnected truths. We couldn’t live with all the time it would take to accomplish this daunting task.

Religions Have Misguided Beliefs

All religions may have some truth to it, but they still are man made. They still have biases and incorrect beliefs. Some religions have been twisted for personal gain and pride. Other religions shape a belief with good intentions, but later the belief is proved false. Most religions have included incorrect beliefs for both reasons: pride and ignorance.

Search For Truth Or Life?

There was a point in my life where I tried to find the all the connections between religions. I read the Tao and the teachings of Buddha. I had deep conversations with a follower of the LDS and a Muslim. The experience was interesting but lacking. All the time I spent searching for the truth took a huge chunk of time out of my days.

The search for truth came at the expense of the important relationships in my life. The people that brought me the most hope and joy became increasingly distant.

The search for truth inadvertently started to destroy the truth that I’ve found.

What should we do?

We are starting at the wrong place. us.

Truth Starts With God

Our search for truth should start with God. The benefit of religion is that it showed us the truth, but it was man made. There were errors in it. On the other hand, we are returning to the original source when we first seek God. He (sorry for the lack of pronoun to use for God) has the ability to guide us to the truth that we need. All we have to do is ask.

Forget The Labels. Ask The Original Source

I don’t know your philosophical beliefs about God’s existence nor do I know if you follow the same religious background as I, but it is not important. I am not asking you to pray to my understanding of God, but for you to cry out to the creator.

Move past your beliefs for a moment and just speak to the original source. Call it the creator. Call it the original source. Don’t call it Father, time, teacher, or any other label. If you need to visualize something, envision the emptiness before the world and call out to whoever is there.

ask it your question. Then wait.

Difference In Religion And Spirituality

This is the difference between spirituality and religion. They both rely on a faith in something bigger than us, but they have different starting points. Religion or any metaphysical philosophy starts with a set of beliefs and everything else is understood through them. Spirituality starts by asking God to help guide you and through the guidance you will be able to understand the truth when you experience it.

One isn’t necessarily right over the other. You can find truth by exploring all the different religions, but it will come at the price of your life and relationships. Spirituality helps you understand the truth as you live throughout your daily experiences. Therefore, the issue of spirituality and religion is twofold. The first is that having a spiritual faith over a religious faith is that you can still experience all the aspects of living. The second is Spirituality starts with the original source, whereas religion starts with man’s reflections on God.

Next Time On Altnoise

The next article I am working on will finish up this discussion of religion and spirituality. We will explore how we can see truth in daily life and different religions.

Until then, read this interesting article by Todd from We The Change entitled What Is Your Legacy

---
Related Articles at Life. I’ve heard stories about them, but never been confronted by one. Maybe I look too innocent. Actually, they probably know that I’m going to burn.

I was jogging by the lake as I always do in the evenings. Sweat was pouring down my face (I must’ve gone at least a quarter mile) and I noticed a guy in front of me. He was leaning against his bike and talking with someone who seemed annoyed. She was sweating. He wasn’t. It just so happened that when I began to jog by him, he was ready to start a conversation with me. He handed me a pamphlet from the 70′s with two men shaking hands and asked me a question.

“Can I talk to you for a minute about how Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life? He is the only way you can get into heaven.”

The Frustrations of Religions

I understand how easy it would be to walk away from faith. Everyday, I have to admit that guys like him belong to the same religious tradition as myself. He called himself a Christian. I call myself a Christian.

We’ve all read the stories about how a Muslim man killed himself and a number of American sons, wives and parents all in the name of faith or a Christian man either killed or physically removed thousands of innocent families from their homes in order to build a nation under God.

They were missing something. I don’t want to worship their God.

Then there are those other stories. The stories that we love. Martin Luther King Jr. gave a platform for the African-American voice through a peaceful revolution. Gandhi showed us the meaning of love and reconciliation. Mother Teresa became a servant to the misfits of the world.

They all did this in the name of God.

Similarities In Religion

In our modern interconnected world, religions seem to jumble together. There are good Muslims, Christians, Buddhists and Jedi. Ones that we all can look up too. On the other side, there are judgmental and purely evil people who claim to be part of one of the major religions.

From our experiences, it would be easy to say that all religions are saying the same things, only in different ways and different contexts. This isn’t true. We might want to say that all religions point to the same general truth. They are either a good source for doing good in the world or a marketing technique to control a set of masses. I agree on both accounts, but they still aren’t saying the same thing.

The Differences In Religion

Religion is based on certain assumptions about how the world exists, the relationship between the creator and his creation, and our personal interactions in the world. No matter how close two people from different religions seem alike, the individuals will always have different assumptions about the world’s existence. What you see is an interconnected belief about our purpose in this world.

They still are different about why they are choosing to make good or bad choices.

I am a Christian man who wants serve the world and improve it while I am here. I do this partly because I believe that Jesus showed us that God is this way and asks us to follow in his path. A Buddhist man wants to improve the world because it is a step in achieving Nirvana, a Hindu man believes that all of existence is part of God and if we hurt the world, we are hurting ourselves, and an Atheist chooses to imporve the world because he feels or thinks its the right thing to do. All of these religions want do good things in the world, but they are still different.

[ two quick notes: 1. I am not an expert on all religions, therefore my assumptions about non-christian religions come from my basic study of them. Correct me if I'm wrong about them. 2. You can have more than one motive for wanting to help the world. I see it as the right thing to do and a calling that God has asked of us.]

The Original Religions

I mentioned this to the Urban Monk about how we can’t say that all religions are pointing to the same truth, but he disagrees. He believes that each religion’s original teacher all said the same thing, but we have misinterpreted the messages. This is more than possible. It is true that we have misinterpreted the entire original message of Jesus (I can’t speak for any other religion), but not his basic message. Anyone can still read the gospels and say that Jesus taught us to serve one another and that God loves us like a loving Father. This is the basic message of Jesus.

It is different from Judaism.

It is different from Hinduism.

Today’s Religions Are Different From Original

I don’t want to come across as saying that Christianity is better than the others. I’m just making the point that they are differen’t. Even if they were the same in the original form, which could never be proved, they are different today. You can have an argument to say that all religions were the same originally, but you weren’t alive at the same time as the original teacher. In order to call yourself by a religion, you would need to follow similar assumptions of today.

The Interconnected Truths

The real statement should say, “All [major] religions have some interconnected truth.” We cannot deny our experiences of religions. There are similar connections between all religions. I’ve had a Muslim neighbor and a Christian friend from the holiness tradition live very similar lifestyles. They were both careful of their actions and did not want to attract attention to their bodies. They thought that attention would bring temptation, evil and sin.

This is an interconnected truth.

Seek The Interconnections

There are many more throughout all religions and finding these interconnected truths should be one of our goals. Is there one perfect religion? No, religion is man made and has errors (including Christianity). These little interconnnections give us a view of God’s fingerprint in our world. In these truths, we can see how people from various backgrounds and different continents can come to similar understandings about life and God.

They are the beautiful things that should pierce our spirits and the start of connecting people throughout our communities.

Read the first part of the blog conversation. Went into a booth and told another individual who couldn’t see you, everything that you have done wrong? I haven’t. I never have. The faith tradition that I follow doesn’t believe in it. They say that you don’t need any person to forgive your sins, but God. Therefore, Go straight to God.

I both agree and disagree. Theologically, we do not need a mediator between us and God. We can go directly to Him with our prayers. On the other hand, we also need to confess our mistakes to other individuals. He or she might not be wearing a black suit with a white collar, but he could be. Every time we do something that hurts another individual does hurt God. We do need to confess to him, but we also hinder the growth of our community.

We must not forget that everyone we come across with on the street, i.e. our neighbors, is an important part of our community and must be respected. Sometimes we hurt those we know closely and need to ask forgiveness directly from them. Alot of times, we close ourselves off from the community and intentionally hurt those that we hardly know. We do this so we, ourselves, don’t get hurt. You might not ever see them again, but you still have negatively affected their outlook on life. This is why everyone needs a friend, priest or pastor that he or she can confess their mistakes too. We need to admit and own up to our mistakes to God, but also to our community if we have any desire to reform the world into what God desires it to become

---
Related Articles at Life. I’ve written the above lyrics as a chorus, but I can’t come up with any other words for the song. The music is finished with melody, chords and rhythm, but I can’t or won’t write the verses. I know what the song is about and I love the concept. Maybe this is the problem. I love the chorus so much that I am putting the writer’s block on myself.

Everything Becomes a Burden

It must be the irony that is laughing at me. I have an idea for a song about being persistent but all I want to do is give up on it. We all go through times when we just want to give up on something, even when it is one of the most beneficial things in our lives. After awhile, everything becomes a burdern.. a chore.. a frustration.

God is one thing/being whom we would like to give up on from time to time. I know I have. There have been countless times when I tried to feel his presence or get some kind of assurance that he is there and received nothing. God hardly shows up when we feel we need him too. He hardly shows up at all.

Mother Theresa did itÂ

It is encouraging to hear that Mother Theresa doubted God at the end of her life. In her personal journal (which I’m torn if I should read) she shares that she felt like God left her at the end of her life. I understand her despair. She was one of the most spiritual people in the public world. Her servant life has completely changed Christianity for many people.

Maybe being persistent with God is similar to why I am choosing to be persistent with this song. I can visualize the goal. I know when I finish the song it will be good [to someone]. When I am frustrated with God, I would love to give up on believing. But I dont. I even say sometimes that I am an atheist, but I’m not.

---
