This is a very interesting subject. I was just thinking about this recently. In middle and high school, I always knew I wanted to be a psychologist. I was going to help people. Then in college, a friend had a pscyhiatric episode that scared that dream right out of me. So, I totally changed my major and got my AS degree in Paralegal Studies. I couldn't wait to work in a law office, even if I had to start off as just a legal secretary and work my way up. Well, guess what...no jobs around here for that. So a friend recommended me for a job at a doctor's office. I got the job, and liked it, even though it had nothing to do with what I thought I would be doing in life. Then, the doctor I worked for got terribly sick and had to close the practice. I was without a job again, and did not know what to do. I still could not find a legal job around here, even in some nearby towns. As a last resort, I took another job at a different doctor's office. That was the best decision I ever made. It is a wonderful job, and I love it. I can just keep my paralegal degree on the back burner...it's not like I am going to lose it. It will be there if I need it. It is just amazing how life, if you keep an open mind and have a little patience, will put you exactly where you are supposed to be. I am extremely far from where I thought I would be, but I am truly glad that I am in this place in life. I feel like I was meant to be here.
