It seemed like it was only yesterday that I saw her beautiful eyes look so safely into mine. The simple gaze lasted so long that actually six years has passed and I haven’t spoken to her since. Not really lovers, but also more than close friends. The bond I had with this girl was closer than I had with anyone previously. We knew everything would be allright as long as we right beside each other. She was safe with me. I was comforted with her. This timless bond continued until I walked across the stage at graduation. I went my way. She went hers.

The Promise

Â I realize that things cannot stay the same. People grow, change, move on and develop. It is the natural order of things. Somewhat a variation of Darwin’s Natural Selection. Its also not that I don’t enjoy my life today Either; I actually am happier and excited about today more than any time before. It is just a promise. A promise that alot of us have made to others, "I’m not leaving you anymore, Believe and, Hold on to me and, never let me go." This quote from Nickelback’s Far Away, really says our promise to those close to us, but it rarely is ever true.

Another Way

What if we could keep it true? The moving, growing and changing are necessary in life and I don’t think we need to stay put just to be everyone’s shoulder to cry on. But, we can still grow without leaving peopleÂ behind us in today’s world. Social Networking sites such as Myspace, email, telephone, cars and airplanes makes contact easier and closer. Also, holding on is less about continuously shadowing a friend and more of a dedication to forget about our own worries when our friend’s soul is chained in the darkness. It is about knowing that I haven’t seen her in six years, but I wont feel uncomfortable when we finally cross paths on the street. She will still feel safe. and I will still feel comfortable.
