I just wanted to give a quick update for my readers. Late last week, I was KO’d by a nasty case of the flu. I had planned to give a few more updates on the process of the Altnoise project, but it didn’t happen.
TED And Compassion
I will give the final installment in the introduction tomorrow, but in the meantime I found this really great TED talk on Compassion. You should take a minute or two (19 to be exact) and watch it.
The Notice Me FactorÂ
Daniel Goleman’s message is about how we are prewired to be compassionate towards each other, but we fail to be compassionate because of personal stressors in our lives. If we aren’t crunched for time, we will usually help out that lost tourist. On the other hand, we will pretend not to even notice the tourist when we are late to a meeting.
Mr. Goleman suggests that compassion begins with turning off our cell phones and then taking the time to notice those around us. We don’t notice those that are in our peripheral vision, they’ve got to be right in our direct line of sight.
