Computers and Reality: A Fast Revelation
Tags: internet, computers, life, family, responsibility Â
For almost two weeks I fasted from most of the internet. It was not an active decision on my part, but circumstances collided and the results came in that life did not have me on the computer. There were some good things that came from it and some bad reactions might come, but it was extremely eye-opening to live like most of the world - not dependant on the world wide web.
I Swear its not an addiction
It was extremely difficult some days. I actually got lost and felt like I had to get on, only to find that nothing was really going on when I logged in. While the internet changed, nothing really changed. The internet really wasn’t dependant on me and all the junk I received could wait. There was nothing life-altering at any moment I snuck on the computer, but I was always worried I would miss something. What would I miss… I have no idea and at the moment of anxiety couldn’t tell ya.
The secret everyone else knew
While I do still think that the internet is on par with the wheel, fire and the printing press in terms of being revolutionary, I have come to terms that it isn’t making life dependant on it.. yet. For the most part, the internet is still caged inside a box of a computer that must actively be turned on. Not everyone has the time, desire or will to actually sit at a computer and wade through an overstocked garage of junk to find a few hidden treasures.
The Internet… The Family
So what does this revelation mean? What is the point of this post besides ranting about a personal revelation? I don’t really know, but I do know that life is more important than the things that we believe will make an impact on the world. The internet, work, social responsibilities, outside world can and will live without my participation; my family cannot.

Nice… I was wondering where you’ve been. By the way, I really like the jukebox that you’ve put on your website… I can’t wait until you post some more songs. Can you post your own original music on there?
P.S. Why haven’t you commented on my blog yet?
Thanks.. yeh, I grabbed the jukebox from another site I am working on. I can add any sound files (I’m going to stick with mp3’s though because of size). I told you why I havent commented on yours… I CANT WITH THE STUPID YAHOO BLOG :p. If you’d like I can set you up one on my server and you’ll have complete control. Maybe a sports blog or whatever.
Thanks for the offer. I’ll think about it. In the meantime, all you have to do is go here and click on “Get Started.”
