“To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly.” Henri Louis Bergeson

The Object Blocking Our PathAre you comfortable living in the moment.. or are you obsessed about having a plan?

Me? I must have a planned strategy for the order that I put my clothes on in the morning. I am not good with spontaneity. There was a time in my life where I welcomed the unpredictable, but that was before college.

Now I must know everything.

I believe that a large majority of people are this way. They might not be as extreme as I, but we all want to believe that we have a larger purpose for our lives. We all start with a general trail that we have carved out for life. We then set up to define our success by following this trail.

But what happens when the trail becomes impassable?

True Success Is Determined By Our Willingness To Listen

A truer measure of success is determined by the choices we make when our trail meets an unexpected end. Do you push on an immovable wall because it is blocking your trail or do you look for an alternative path?

We are taught that we must persist and overcome any obstacle that hinders our travel. I even write about being persistent, but sometimes persistence turns into ignorance. There are times in our lives where our plans for life abruptly end and no amount of pushing will get you back on track.

It is in these times that you become aware of how truly flexible you are. In these moments, we need to learn to stop pushing and listen. Maybe God is trying to show you another path to a more beautiful clearing in the forest.

When Life’s Trail Suddenly Stops(One Response)

This is a very interesting subject. I was just thinking about this recently. In middle and high school, I always knew I wanted to be a psychologist. I was going to help people. Then in college, a friend had a pscyhiatric episode that scared that dream right out of me. So, I totally changed my major and got my AS degree in Paralegal Studies. I couldn’t wait to work in a law office, even if I had to start off as just a legal secretary and work my way up. Well, guess what…no jobs around here for that. So a friend recommended me for a job at a doctor’s office. I got the job, and liked it, even though it had nothing to do with what I thought I would be doing in life. Then, the doctor I worked for got terribly sick and had to close the practice. I was without a job again, and did not know what to do. I still could not find a legal job around here, even in some nearby towns. As a last resort, I took another job at a different doctor’s office. That was the best decision I ever made. It is a wonderful job, and I love it. I can just keep my paralegal degree on the back burner…it’s not like I am going to lose it. It will be there if I need it. It is just amazing how life, if you keep an open mind and have a little patience, will put you exactly where you are supposed to be. I am extremely far from where I thought I would be, but I am truly glad that I am in this place in life. I feel like I was meant to be here.
